Sigung Trent's Martial Arts Background

Sigung Trent started his martial arts training on the Big Island in 1984 while attending U.H.-Hilo. He started studying Tae Kwon Do at Master Lee’s Tae Kwon Do and attained his Blue Belt before transferring to U.H.-Manoa in 1985.

In his search for a more self-defense oriented art, he found a new art called Kajukenbo. He enrolled in the Hawaii Kajukenbo Headquarters school headed by Clarence Luna Emperado, who is Sijo’s step son. In 1991, Sigung Trent attained his black belt in Kajukenbo.

In 1992, he moved back to his home island of Maui and started teaching and training with some old friends, back yard style. He then joined George Kaanana’s school along with a few of his friends and trained there for about two years.

In 1994, Sigung Trent started studying Brazilian Jiujitsu under Romolo Barros, a black belt under the legendary Rickson Gracie. In 1997, he attained his Blue Belt.

In 1999, Sigung Trent attained his 3rd degree black belt in Kajukenbo and opened a school in Kahului, Maui that same year. In 2001, Sigung Trent continued training in BJJ under Luis Heredia, also a black belt under Rickson Gracie and attained his Purple Belt in 2005.
