Sigung Trent started his martial arts training on the Big Island
in 1984 while attending U.H.-Hilo. He started studying
Tae Kwon Do at Master Lees Tae Kwon Do and attained
his Blue Belt before transferring to U.H.-Manoa in 1985.
In his search for a more self-defense oriented art,
he found a new art called Kajukenbo. He enrolled in
the Hawaii Kajukenbo Headquarters school headed by Clarence
Luna Emperado, who is Sijos step son. In 1991,
Sigung Trent attained his black belt in Kajukenbo.
In 1992, he moved back to his home island of Maui and
started teaching and training with some old friends,
back yard style. He then joined George Kaananas
school along with a few of his friends and trained there
for about two years.
In 1994, Sigung Trent started studying Brazilian Jiujitsu
under Romolo Barros, a black belt under the legendary
Rickson Gracie. In 1997, he attained his Blue Belt.
In 1999, Sigung Trent attained his 3rd degree black belt
in Kajukenbo and opened a school in Kahului, Maui that
same year. In 2001, Sigung Trent continued training in
BJJ under Luis Heredia, also a black belt under Rickson
Gracie and attained his Purple Belt in 2005.
In 2006, Sigung Trent started training in Kali under
Eliseo Sur from the Villabrille-Largusa Kali System.
In January 2007, Sigung Trent was awarded his 5th degree
black belt by Co-Founder Frank Ordonez at Kaneohe, Oahu,
Hawaii.
